The Wonder of LBI

 In Articles

Long Beach Island or LBI as we affectionately call our piece of heaven, is just perfect.  I might be biased as I grew up here but I am 100% confident that if you talk to anyone who has a house here, lives here, vacations here, or visits here they will tell you the same thing.  What makes our little island so perfect?  What is the Wonder of LBI?

LBI has 2 “sections”: the North end & the South end, loosely separated by the entrance to LBI from the bridge.  We love the whole island but have a particular affection for the North end.  I grew up on the north end in Barnegat Light and have spent most of my career building new homes or renovating existing ones in the area.  The South end of LBI, especially the Beach Haven area, is considered more “vibrant” because of the shopping, restaurants, & bars but the North end still provides all of that minus the traffic & crowds.

The first town considered north is Surf City.  Surf City is a mix of residential, restaurants, bars, and shops. It has it’s quieter section on the bay side with a lively Boulevard for things to do.  Known for their large beaches & bay access, Surf City has something for everyone!

The next section is all residential and is actually apart of Long Beach Township, North Beach.  Tranquil beaches & bay side living make this a perfect spot for a home away from home.  Very similar is Loveladies, also apart of Long Beach Township, and is another unique section of the north end.  Loveladies is the home of the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts & Sciences.  A wonderful place for adults & children to experience workshops, classes, theatre, and many other activities.  It is a cultural gem on the north end.

Nestled in between North Beach & Loveladies is Harvey Cedars.  Harvey Cedars is mainly residential but has a vibrant downtown that includes shops & eateries.  Their Sunset Park is known for its beautiful views of the sunset.  Harvey Cedars is a great location for those who want the quiet but also have a local shopping area.

At the very north end of LBI is Barnegat Light,  Barnegat Light has a long history of being a fishing village.  This history has molded Barnegat Light into the town it is.  It is still the center of commercial fishing in the northeast and is the home of Ole Barney (Barnegat Lighthouse).  Barnegat Light is a mix of quiet residential areas with shopping, eateries, bars, museums, & parks.  And of course marinas for pleasure & commercial use.

The wonder of LBI is intertwined in it’s history, people, & of course our beaches.  Beautiful white sand beaches with clean, clear, blue water is inviting & refreshing.  Dolphins, seals, & whales travel up and down our island putting on shows for those who are around.  Fishing, surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding, boating…LBI offers it all.  Experience the Wonder yourself…
